Baby Naming Ceremonies.
A naming ceremony is a very old ceremony and dates back to pre Christian times when the most senior person of the "clan" officially welcomed the child into the family. This ceremony has evolved a little whereby the Celebrant now officiates and the family and friends that you have present on the day are indicative of your "clan" . By being there, they are not only celebrating the birth of your child, but promising to contribute to your childs' life - I encourage people present on the day to give of their time, their love and their thoughts to ensure your child's bright future.
It's an opportunity to declare before family and friends, your promises to be as good a parent as you can, and for adult friends or relatives to confirm their special relationship with your child. Family relationships are deepened, especially the role of the Guardians or Godparents as we know them in a spiritual sense, and Grandparents.
A naming ceremony is also ideally suited to mark and celebrate an older child into the family, to welcome and celebrate an adoptive child into the family or to embrace stepchildren into a new family. It's the perfect way to bond as a family unit.
Many different rituals can be included as a symbol of your love to your child including; candle lighting, flower ceremony, showering your child with petals, teddy bear ritual, time capsules, and more.
